| Objectives / Innovative Aspects |
Specifically, the measure objectives are to reach agreements between the municipality and private firms concerning the handling of construction work traffic. Until now, optimisation of urban construction logistics has been carried out in situations with only one principal. In the situation of Utrecht, there are multiple actors who are independent from each other, but interdependent since they are operating in the same restricted space. show long version |
| The Measure |
In the next ten years, the central railway station area in Utrecht will be reconstructed and in the next five years the infrastructure will be dramatically improved. Both these projects result in much construction work traffic that interacts with itself and other road users.
The significant impact that this traffic has on the city, but also on the progress of the construction projects themselves, warrants a coordinated approach. It is most important to avoid peaks in demand, or to level out the peaks in construction work traffic during the day. Furthermore, the system has to offer advantages both to the city, and to the project developers. show long version |

| Implementation Status |
Market consultation will be carried out among construction firms, the transport and logistics sector, and operators of alternative transport modes about (already identified) promising solutions. In the event of sufficient support, an agreement will be set up between the municipality and private firms concerning the concept of a construction logistics plan.
The focus of the construction logistics plan will be on the traffic flow from the Westside area of Utrecht towards the central railway station area. Various locations will be examined to be used as central buffer zones for parking trucks and private cars of construction workers. The possibility of a a consolidation centre will be examined as well as the minimum infrastructure requirements. show long version |
| (Expected) Results |
One expected result is less construction works traffic and/or a more equal flow of it in the central railway station area in Utrecht. Another expectation is a swift and smooth construction process and a 20% reduction of estimated construction work road traffic.
